Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro
(Review)

Sony Ericsson brings its latest addition to the Vivaz generation with a noticeably sleeker and curved back and that is Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro. The slide out QWERTY keypad with a centered space bar is another welcome improvement, which along with the touch screen makes the phone very handy for messaging and chatting. The phone also brags the ability to shoot High definition videos at 720p and great pictures, with the 5.1 Mega pixels camera.

Interface and Software

Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro sports the Symbian OS 5th edition which is touch enabled. The home screen has alternate home screen panes i.e.   Contacts, animated wallpaper, camera album, twitter application and shortcuts. These can be navigated by horizontal finger swipes. The main menu is a Sony Ericsson standard and is easy to use.

Keypad

The keypad can be accessed on the bottom of the screen which brings up an easy to touch keypad. The phonebook has virtually unlimited memory and contacts can be categorized into groups. The search keypad is alphabetical and convenient to use. All sorts of input methods are available for one’s comfort. Be it, a touch based mini QWERTY or a full screen QWERTY or even hand recognition if needed. What comes as a pleasant surprise is the slide out hardware QWERTY keypad with a centered spacebar and complete with navigation keys.

Easy messaging and email

Messaging options on this phone is excellent .Messages can be categorized by date or name or even seen in the form of conversations. Mostly all emailing options required are available as multiple email accounts are supported. The slide out QWERTY keypad makes messaging and browsing a delightful experience.

Camera

The 5 mega pixels camera makes for some great pictures being packed with features like focus settings, scenes, shoot mode, exposure control and Auto mode. There are more attractions like touch focus, face detection, smile detection, panorama mode and geo tagging. The pictures have accurate colors and great resolution.

HD video is without a doubt this phones greatest asset as Vivaz pro records 720p videos at 24 fps. The LED needs to be turned on manually but acts as a great video light, while the continuous auto focus, vivid colors and well resolved detail promise some great videos.

Media Centre

The media centre essentially has shortcuts to three elements which are Photo, Music and video.

Photo: The image gallery has the timeline view of all the pictures taken and can be browsed by side flicks of your fingers. A simple tap on the screen gives you options like delete, edit, and information.

Music: The sound quality expected out of Sony Ericsson walkman doesn’t disappoint you. The Now playing and tracks can be controlled by easy finger taps and slides.

Video: The 720p videos shot on the Vivaz pro camera are a pleasure to watch with high resolution. TV out is also available.

Connectivity

Connectivity being a strong suite in Sony Ericsson phones is pretty great in Vivaz pro. GSM connectivity is available with a quad band GSM/EDGE for 2G networks and 2 band 3G. Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and Wi Fi with DLNA give impressive local connectivity.

Web browser

Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro comes with the S60 5th edition browser. The kinetic scrolling gives you easy mobility through pages which are well rendered. But, the touch zoom feature is a tad hard to use. The web browser is also supported by Flash and Java which allows you to watch Flash videos in your browser. The browser is decent when it comes to speed.
