The SettingWizard program is pretty good that enables for simplified setting of data transfers, multimedia messages or emails. It is an application which automatically selects the type of setting according to the operator.

OS & Memory:
Nokia 3230 uses Symbian OS version 7.0, Series 60 SE UI. The PIM functions include the Calendar, Task organizer, Notes, Calculator, Converter, Clock and the wallet.

The phone has 6 MB internal storage memory and along with it is provided a  32MB memory card. Nokia 3230 uses a memory card of the RS DV MMC type (Reduced Size Dual Voltage MultiMediaCard).

Messaging:
As far as messaging is concerned, it has T9 predictive text input for quick text insertion while writing SMS, MMS, emails or instant messaging. The size of the pictures inserted into the multimedia messages, can be automatically reduced to the one suitable for MMS.The Email box supports SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols.

Music:
A true joy of Nokia 3230 is its stereophonic FM radio whose sound quality is outstanding.
One can enjoy a long drive with it with no strain on mind, body & soul. Twenty radio stations can be configured at a time.  It is possible to listen to the radio by using the loud speaker too, but it won't work unless the headset is plugged in.

Apart from FM radio it has a Music player too which is monophonic. It plays MP3 format, AAC, AMR and Real audio files. The video player can play not only H.263, but also the 3GP, MP4, MPEG-4 video and Real Video formats. It has RealPlayer to play music and video. The earphones that come with the kit can be used for listening to music as well as a Hands-free set.

Camera:
The camera lens is well placed at the top of back cover. The built-in camera has an effective resolution of 1.23 megapixels which facilitates the pictures taken to have a resolution of 1280 × 960 pixels. The saving format of the pictures is JPEG. The image quality is fine. Although saving a picture in a mega pixel resolution takes the phone relatively longer time. Another interesting feature with the camera is the night mode for low light conditions. It has a digital zoom too.
In addition to that Nokia 3230 has a Kodak Mobile Service application which makes use of GPRS and enables you to upload pictures to Kodak website or print them at Kodak kiosks. The phone also offers a picture editor, which enables you to edit pictures or convert them into a greeting card that can be sent as a multimedia message.

You can also shoot video with Nokia 3230. The length is limited by the amount of free memory available. With 32MB card you could record up to an hour long video. The videos are saved in a 176 × 144 pixels resolution in a H.263 format. The videos  can be edited too using Movie editor application which offers options for cutting clips, add special effects like slow motion and adding frame borders, sounds etc. You can make your own movie of about ten minutes.

Games:
Superhit with youngsters. My son snatched the phone & played for two hours and  said WOW !!!

The phone contains three pre-installed games:

1. Agent V: You have to destroy the parasitic viruses circulating around. It uses camera's view-finder where camera view becomes the moving background .

2. Rally Pro: A racing game with fantastic graphics. This game could be played with more players through Bluetooth.

3. Warrior: It is a classic "shooting game", where you fly in a rocket through the airspace trying to destroy your enemies. A pleasure to play with joystick.

Display:
The display size is good ( 176 x 208 pixels, TFT ) with  65536 colors. It has a bright backlight. It gives you three options for graphic themes that change the looks of the display including the icons and the menus into a different design. It displays wallpapers beautifully.

Joystick & keypad:
The five-way joystick is easy to use and works efficiently. It also serves as shortcuts to some main functions like in the standby mode move left to write text message, move right to open built-in calendar, move up to open photo-video application and a move down to open address book. The keypad is rather small and the keys are held closely. It requires little practice to handle it with one hand.

Each entry in the address book can be assigned different ringtones or pictures etc. You can search in the address list by progressively dialing the first letters of the names. The list can be viewed either in a Firstname Surname format or vice versa.
