 Amazing ! ... first reaction of anybody  who saw it for the first time. Haier P7, the pen like cellphone is truely futuristic, innovative design and a fashion statement specially favoured by ladies, we did survey in the market. 

It looks like a big pen ( size - 150 x 27 x 18.2 mm ) and can be conveniently clipped into your pocket without being heavy (just 65 gm). Move the clip like a shutter and you will find a good enough VGA camera with 640 x 480 resolution hidden behind it.   

P7 is among Haier's ( China) most advanced cellphones, successor of its earlier pens P5 & P6.    

It is a tri-band phone that works on GSM 900 / 1800 /1900 frequencies which means it can work in most of Asia-Pasific, Europe as well as in America.    

It has a small TFT ( 64 colors) display of the size 128 x 64 pixels but has a good resolution and displays beautiful wallpapers and screensavers. Menu is user friendly and efficient. The cellphone has a unique navigation key with a cute little joystick that makes the operations much easier.   

The keys are small but elevated still convenient. Bright screen and blue back-lit keys make the operation easy even in the dark.   

P7 comes with a choice of polyphonic ( 40 channels) ringtones that may remind you of the supple chinese music. You can download some.   

The voice is loud & clear. Voice memo ( 3 x 30 min) is also available along with voice recording capability. It has speakerphone too. Phonebook can accomodate 300 entries. P7 has 3 MB shared memory but no card slot to extend the same.    

Messaging can be SMS or MMS. Predictive text input T9 is also supported.    

It has all other features like clock, alarm, calculator and Games . It is WAP and GPRS enabled with data speed of 32 to 48 kbps.   

For the connectivity part, it has USB port but no infrared or Bluetooth.   

The standard battery is Li-ion 600 mAh with talk time of around 3 hrs and stand-by time up to 140 hrs. Surprisingly the length of the phone charger chord is almost half of the normal size.   

Some people who have used P5 or P6 earlier are missing the laser pointer ( ie. the Cats Controlling Device). Other features that are missing compared to today's handsets are video camera, JAVA and e-mail support, very important these days when the pace of life is jet set.   

But overall its a good phone and owners pride !
