HTC Touch Dual™

HTC Touch Dual is a wonderful experience with intuitive finger touch user interface along with innovative sliding keypad design. It uses Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 operating system and integrates 3.5G wireless connectivity. The phone is among the smallest Windows Mobile 6 devices and looks very elegant.

The Interface:
The most distinguishing feature of HTC Touch Dual is the finger touch sensitive display which even renders the stylus unused. TouchFLO, the finger friendly touch interface features Touch scrolling, TouchFlo menu system and a touch friendly Today screen. Interestingly the Touch Dual is able to differentiate between the stylus and a fingertip. Most importantly the responsiveness and reliability of the touch function is very good in this phone as compared to other touch screen Windows Mobile devices. Even the small buttons in the display like "ok" in the corner of the screen are sensitive enough.

An interesting part of the HTC Touch Dual's user interface is the new TouchFlo finger menu system that is accessible with a finger swipe. The application can be accessed any time by placing finger on HTC logo at the bottom of the display and dragging it upwards. The menu will slide up the screen. Similarly it can be closed with a downward swipe. The finger touch menu has three pages, the menu, picture contacts list, and multimedia menu. The finger menu comprises of email, SMS, Pocket IE, Tasks, Comm. Manager and Calendar but these shortcuts can not be changed. Swiping from left to right or vice versa will bring up other two pages in the system in a 3D rotating cube graphic effects.

The picture contact list is like a speed dial application where nine contacts can be on the screen. Tapping the photograph (if saved) of the contact  will dial the contact's primary number. A long press will display all info of the contact. The main contacts list, call log and the phone dial pad can also be instantly accessed from on-screen touch buttons at the bottom of the picture list.

The the finger touch buttons of the multimedia menu gives access to Audio Manager and photo or video gallery. You can view photo slideshows using touch screen controls and zoom and rotate images with your finger. TouchFLO also enables finger touch scrolling and browsing of web pages, documents and messages. The status bar at the top of the screen also has touch sensitive icons like tapping on the battery icon will bring up the battery status page.

The Contact application in the HTC Touch Dual is also worth a mention. It supports many fields like home and work numbers,  addresses, anniversaries, spouse details, assistant details etc. and can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook too. HTC Touch Dual also sports many touch friendly add-ons like towards right of the screen is a small display of the alphabet upon which the user can slide a finger down to easily jump to the desired letter.

The Keypad:
The slide out keypad is handy specially if you have to do a lot of texting or data input on your mobile. Its slider mechanism is smooth. The keys are also large enough and convenient.

Connectivity:
The Touch Dual supports HSDPA data on the 2100MHz frequency but unfortunately there is no WiFi connectivity. As it supports Microsoft Exchange servers, one can synchronize email, contacts, tasks, and calendar entries over the air. The Touch Dual also supports Bluetooth profiles, including the Network Access Point profile, for using it as a modem.

Camera:
Touch Dual has 2.0MP camera which takes relatively good pictures under favorable light conditions. The camera operation is very  very easy through a simple touch user interface. The camera settings include white balance, brightness adjustments and some simple effects. The gallery viewer is excellent with simple controls to zoom, rotate, and move.

Media player:
It has Windows Media player which can be synchronized with the PC but it is not very touch friendly. On the other hand there is another Audio Manager application which is very easy to operate with a finger. Although both the applications are efficient and support the same formats.

Voice:
The Touch Dual also includes a Voice Speed Dial application that dial contacts as well as start applications. But this is not speaker independent and voice tags are applied to elements before they can be activated by voice. Audio is crisp and clear with very good background noise reduction. Although speakerphone functionality is not up to the mark.

Messaging:
The Touch Dual supports all the messaging options like SMS, MMS, both push and POP/IMAP email. Apart from this Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail email can also be accessed.

The Chip and Memory:
The HTC Touch Dual comes with Qualcomm® MSM7200 chip running at 400MHz. It has
around 128MB RAM which greatly enhances the responsiveness of the device. The memory card slot is available from outside which is good as you need not remove he battery to access it.

Applications:
All Windows Mobile 6 PIM applications like Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks are there along with voice recorder, calculator and file manager. In addition there are some more applications like Flash Player, Adobe Reader a Zip file handler. The Touch Dual also includes Office Mobile suite with mobile versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint which can not only be read but edited and created too.

Web browser:
The Internet Explorer web browser is the same as in any Windows Mobile device along with the specialty that allows finger scrolling and clicking the links.
