New Delhi, November 18, 2008: Virgin Mobile, India’s first national youth focused mobile service brand, today unveiled its irresistible pricing for vKewl, a fully loaded cool and stylish mobile phone with Video Recording capability. With this announcement, vKewl is now the only handset in the price range of Rs. 3,499 that can boast of providing the most desired features like video recording capability and 1.3 mega pixel camera and comes with lifetime incoming validity and a prepaid connection. Besides this, the phone comes with MP3 player, FM Radio, MMS, Speakers and Headsets.

Keeping with Virgin Mobile’s brand essence of ‘Think hatke’, the offer was unveiled in a unique manner in the Lucknow city. The revelation carried a tag line “Lights! vKewl! Action!” during an act that involved a seemingly unclad female model placed behind a half frosted glass. The suspense was broken as the clad model appeared on the stage where she, along with the Virgin Mobile India head, flashed the vKewl handset to the media.


Delighted at the announcement, M A Madhusudan, Chief Executive Officer, Virgin Mobile India said, “Mobile phone is a  lifestyle device for youth and has become an extension of their personality and entertainment requirements. Keeping this in mind, we have now made facilities such as video recording and 1.3 mega pixel camera more affordable for youth so that they can capture and share impromptu moments spent with their friends and family without hurting their pockets”.

 

According to reports, there will be over 50mn new youth subscribers added over the next 3 years in India and we expect to take a good share of this incremental market”, he further added.

 

Nationally Virgin Mobile handsets are available across 25,000 outlets and over 1000 organized retail outlets including The Mobile Store, Univercell, Croma, Convergem, Big C, Vishal Mega Mart, Planet M, Vijay Sales and Sangeetha to name a few. Since its launch in India, Virgin Mobile has taken a number of initiatives to offer customized and relevant offerings for its youth audience to meet their style, budget and aspirations. These services will be extended to Virgin Mobile customers in UP as well - 

  • Get Paid for Incoming’* - An industry defining tariff offer which credits customers with 10 paise for every minute of incoming call they receive. *Not applicable for calls received from Tata numbers

  • ‘New 50 paise STD local’ - The first of its kind, this offer will allow Virgin Mobile youth customers to make STD and Local calls @50paise/min without any extra charges or a pack. STD - After the first 3 Minutes of each day at Rs.1.5/- per minute, customers can enjoy outgoing calls through the day at just 50 Paise per minute for upto 30 Minutes. Beyond this, the initial rate is applicable. LOCAL - After the first 3 Minutes of the day at Re.1/- per minute, customers can enjoy outgoing calls for rest of the day at just 50 Paise per minute

  • ‘YoYo Plan’ – Virgin Mobile to Virgin Mobile tariff package that allows customers to call between Virgin Mobile to Virgin Mobile at 10 paise per minute (for 700 local minutes) for a nominal monthly commitment of just Rs. 28. This tariff package is available through a vPower recharge voucher and is one of the most attractive packs in the market today.

    With Virgin Mobile to Virgin Mobile outgoing calls being priced at 10 paise per minute, Virgin Mobile customers can call their peers on Virgin Mobile virtually for free. This is because Virgin Mobile’s ‘Get Paid for Incoming’ proposition allows Virgin Mobile customers to earn 10 paise credit for every minute of an incoming call they receive from other Virgin Mobile customers.

 

In addition, Virgin Mobile offers innovative bolt ons (schemes) such as ‘Thank God its Weekend’ that let youth enjoy 100 free local SMSs and all local mobile calls at 30 paise between Friday and Sunday on payment of just Rs. 18.
