Samsung Presents 'World Cyber Games 2008'

 

-        India preliminaries to be held in Delhi and Mumbai

-        Winners to represent India at Cologne, Germany for the Grand Finals

New Delhi, October 17, 2008: Digital technology leader, Samsung India today announced the launch of the most eagerly awaited Cyber Olympics event in India – the World Cyber Games 2008 (WCG 2008). The eighth edition of the World Cyber Games (WCG), world's first cyber gaming festival, is supported worldwide by Samsung Electronics and is being held in India in association with Indiagames. The WCG India preliminary rounds will be held in Delhi (17th-18th October) and Mumbai (23rd – 24th October), with the national finals being held in Mumbai on October 25th. The national winners will represent India at Cologne, Germany for the grand finale of World Cyber Games 2008.

World Cyber Games (WCG) – a unique computer gaming event of international repute is designed to build a healthy cyber culture. The best gamers around the world gather in various cities to share the excitement and fun of the game tournaments. The World Cyber Games (WCG) has been promoted on the lines of the International Olympic movement. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, South Korea – is the main sponsor for the WCG in over 70 countries this year. The winners from each of the 70 countries will compete at the WCG finals being held at Cologne , Germany.
 

Announcing the launch of World Cyber Games 2008, states Mr. Y Y Kim, Director – Marketing, Samsung South West Asia HQ, "Gaming is emerging as a very strong entertainment platform across the world, especially amongst the youth and the World Cyber Games, with its Slogan of 'Beyond the Game' seeks to promote a healthy cyber culture. Samsung aims to utilize this e-sports platform to help fuel the development of the gaming industry in India, as well as globally". The World Cyber Games in India will witness participation from not only computer and video gaming enthusiasts but also for the first time, mobile gamers from across the country.
 
Thus, the World Cyber Games 2008 will feature interesting PC games like Counterstrike1.6 (5 member team game), Warcraft III, FIFA Soccer 2008, Need for Speed Pro Street and for the first time, will provide the contestants an opportunity to compete with each other in the mobile gaming space with Asphalt 4. Innovative and engaging games like Asphalt 4 and FIFA '08 are embedded on Samsung's latest handset – Innov8, which has just been launched in the Indian market. The PC games will be played on Samsung's advanced Touch-e LCD Monitors, which serve as the optimal display solution for gaming on account of their world best image quality, low response time of 5 ms and dynamic contrast ratios of 7000:1.    Asphalt 4 will be played on the Samsung Innov8, India's first 8 Megapixel camera phone, which was launched in the Indian market last week. 
"WCG 2007 provides us with a perfect platform, not only to reach out to gaming aficionados but also showcase our leading technology products to our young consumers", states Mr. Sanjay Sharma, VP-IT, Samsung India. The WCG venue will also have on display Samsung 'T' Monitors and the Company's recently introduced range of Laser Printers. The Samsung 'T Monitors' stand out on account of their distinctive and stunning design as well as superior performance features – a dynamic contrast ratio of 20000:1; a response time of 2 ms and a Panel that supports 16.7 million colours.

The City Finalists at the Delhi and Mumbai centers will win Samsung E840, Samsung's slim and stylish Camera phone with ICEpower Amplifier by Bang & Olufsen. The National Finalists, in addition to representing the country at Cologne, Germany, will carry home Samsung's advanced 5 Mega pixel Camera phone, Samsung G600 along with Samsung's breakthrough Laser Printer- ML 2245 that has especially been developed for the Indian market. ML 2245 has the Drum and the Toner separate, thereby saving around 50% printing cost per page.

 

The New Delhi Preliminaries of WCG are being held on 17th - 18th October 2008 at the Sri Satya Sai Centre, Lodhi Road while the Mumbai Preliminaries are being held between 23rd– 24thOctober 2008 at the Nehru Planetarium. The WCG Finals 2008 will be held at the same venue in Mumbai on October 25th.

 

WCG 2007 is presented by Samsung India and is being organized by Indiagames.
