Samsung India organizes
Send Off Function for the Indian Contingent to
the Beijing Olympic Games 2008
· Announces ‘Incentive Program’ for the Indian Delegation

Worldwide Olympic Partner and Sponsor of the Indian team to the Beijing
Olympic Games 2008, Samsung today hosted the Send Off Function for the
Indian Contingent. Present on the occasion were members of the Indian
contingent : Mr Suresh Kalmadi , President of Indian Olympic Association
, Raja Randhir Singh , Secretary General of the IOA and Member, IOC ;
H.E Zhang Yan , Chinese Ambassador to India ;Mr R Zutshi , Dy Managing
Director , Samsung India and other senior representatives of the Indian
Olympic Association . The event was also attended by Samsung Olympic
Ratnas - Samsung Olympic Brand Ambassador , Manavjit Singh Sandhu ; ace
shooters , Anjali Bhagwat and Avneet Kaur Sidhu ; Archer Dola Banerjee
and Boxer , A L Lakra . Speaking on the occasion , stated Mr R. Zutshi, Dy Managing Director, Samsung India Electronics , “It has been our continuous endeavor to bring alive the pride and spirit of the Olympic Games for our Indian consumers. We, at Samsung India are very pleased to announce the Samsung ‘Most Valued Performance’ Awards for medal winning individual performances at the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.” As part of the Samsung MVP program, Samsung India will give a cash reward of Rs.20 lacs for the Gold Medal Winner/s at the Beijing Olympics. Rs.15 lacs will be awarded to the Silver Medalist/s and Rs.10 lacs for the Bronze Medal winner/s at the Beijing Olympics.” This incentive program is a manifestation of our support and encouragement to the Indian team and should provide a good motivation to our Indian team members to come back with a richer medal tally . “ |
Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, President of the Indian Olympic Association lauded Samsung’s continued and consistent support to the Olympic movement in India. He stated that “Given the Indian team’s preparedness for the Olympics, their confidence and the ‘Samsung Incentive Program’, we should see India putting up a medal winning performance at the Olympics .”
To build support for the Indian team and strengthen the Olympic movement in India , Samsung India which is also a sponsor of the Indian Contingent , has organized the biggest national quiz on Olympic Games for schools titled ‘Samsung Olympic Games Quest’. The Quiz which started with Kolkata on July 22nd , traveled to Bangalore on July 24th .It will be held in Mumbai on July 29th and both the Delhi Finals and the National Finals will be held at New Delhi on August 5th , 2008. As the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications category , Samsung India is also launching a new touch screen phone , Touch Wiz coinciding with the Olympics 2008 , and the entire communication for this phone is oriented around the Olympics .
Samsung India kicked off its Olympic Programme for Beijing Olympics 2008 in November 2007 by launching its ‘Olympic Ratna Programme’ whereby it provided Scholarship Support to six top Indian athletes towards their preparation for the forthcoming Beijing Olympic Games 2008. The six athletes who are being supported by Samsung as part of the Olympic Ratna program include: Shooters Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Abhinav Bindra, Anjali Bhagwat, Avneet Kaur Sidhu; Archer Dola Bannerjee and Boxer A L Lakra .
Earlier this year, as the presenting sponsor of the Global Olympic Torch Relay, Samsung in partnership with the Delhi Government and the Indian Olympic Association, brought the Olympic Torch Relay for the Beijing Olympic Games 2008 to New Delhi.
