IDEA launches Background Tones
First Operator in the Country to launch new VAS innovation

New Delhi, March 7, 2006: In keeping with the promise of providing world class products and services, to its customers, IDEA Cellular Ltd., India’s leading cellular operator today added another first to its list of many firsts, by announcing the launch of its new VAS innovation- Background Tones across all 8 circles. Background Tones is a service wherein (background) music is played after the call is connected and for the entire call duration.

Announcing the launch of the service, Mr. Vikram Mehmi, CEO, Idea Cellular Ltd, said, “As seen with Dialer Tones, music has emerged as the primary means of entertainment; with mobile users. It would be relevant to say that it has even become the signature of the user, one that he is identified with.” He added, “We find that customers are increasingly looking for new means to be engaged and entertained through their mobile devices. Our launch of Background Tones adds an interesting twist to the concept of music-on-the-go. I am confident that this path breaking service would redefine the mobile telephony experience of all our customers.”
