Company Press Release:

HITACHI GST® NAMED AS CES INNOVATIONS 2011

DESIGN AND ENGINEERING AWARD HONOREE

Blending Innovative Content Management Software and Backup, and a Unique Design by Stuart Karten Design, the LifeStudio Mobile Plus Drive

by Hitachi GST Takes Honors for Redefining External Storage

New Delhi, November 23, 2010 – Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that it has been named an International CES® Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for its 500GB LifeStudio™ Mobile Plus external hard drive, designed by Stuart Karten Design (SKD). Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 35 product categories.

The LifeStudio Mobile Plus is a storage solution that seamlessly pulls in, organizes and protects consumers’ priceless stored digital content – photos, videos, music and documents – and unifies them with online digital content from social networks such as Facebook® and photo sites such as Flickr® and Picasa® Web Albums1. These important digital memories are laid out on a stunning 3D visual wall, instead of in random and hard-to-find files and folders, creating a comprehensive and organized catalog of the user’s digital life. Redefining backup, consumers receive the benefits of both local and cloud backup within one single application, making it easy to view, download and share protected cloud content from any web browser, anywhere.

“Consumers are constantly bombarded with content from multiple sources and devices, making it nearly impossible to organize, find and share important memories, and that’s where our LifeStudio family of external drives can help,” said Mike Williams, vice president and general manager, Hitachi GST Branded Business. “The recognition of our LifeStudio drive for this CES Innovations award substantiates our commitment to providing our users with a lifestyle product that makes the organization, protection and retrieval process of their digital memories a more integrated, convenient and intimate experience. We’re very excited to be honored with this award.”

“With the LifeStudio family, we were challenged to push design boundaries in the hard drive category,” said Stuart Karten, principal of SKD, the design and innovation consultancy that collaborated with Hitachi GST on the design of the LifeStudio family. “Never before has an external hard drive been married with a connected USB Flash key. This was inspired by the fluid and dynamic new ways in which people interact with digital content. Our design visually emphasizes the LifeStudio drive’s enhanced functionality, making information as mobile as the new generation of constantly connected customers.”

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. It is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow.

The Innovations entries are judged based on the following criteria:
