Boost Converter Enables Solar and Micro-Fuel Cell Innovation in Portable
Electronics
Texas
Instruments introduced today the industry’s lowest input voltage DC/DC
boost converter, which will enable portable electronic end-equipment to
draw power from new energy sources, such as solar and micro-fuel cells.
The tiny power circuit can operate with input voltages lower than 0.3 V
with high efficiency, allowing designers to overcome the low-voltage design
barrier of incorporating these alternative energy sources in applications,
such as mobile phones, portable medical devices and media players.

celebrates one year of manufacturing in India
On
the occasion of its first anniversary of manufacturing in India, Nokia
the world leader in mobile communications announced that it is progressing
ahead on its 4 year commitment of USD 150 million. The company has reached
a shipment volume of 25 million handsets as of December 2006. The manufacturing
plant currently employs 3800 people, as against the projected 2000, in
the beginning of 2006. As a part of the USD 150 million announced earlier,
the factory is expanding the current floor space from 30,000 sq metres
to 53,000 sq metres to cater to the burgeoning needs of the Indian market.

Airtel ushers in simplified
roaming tariffs
Airtel reduces roaming tariffs
across India. There would be No roaming rental , No roaming surcharge and
No security deposit. With effect from February 15, 2007 Airtel mobile users
can avail significant lower roaming tariffs. All local calls while roaming
will be charged at Rs 1.40 per min., STD calls at Rs 2.40 per min and incoming
calls while roaming will be charged at Rs 1.75 per minute. These revised
tariffs spell huge benefits for the Airtel user as they save close to 55%
on local calls and 40% on STD calls. Equally promising are savings on incoming
calls while roaming that are around 56%. In addition, the monthly roaming
rental of Rs.49 has been waived off. This is going to benefit to over 33.73

phone subscribers' figures reached 14.64 Cr in India. The GSM subscriber
base stands at 10.54 Cr while 4.1 Cr are CDMA subscribers. 46.4 lakh GSM
and 17.3 lakh CDMA subscribers were added in the month of December 2006.

display (TFT-LCD) panels announced today that it has created the first
LCD panel that can produce independent images on each side of a mobile
LCD display. Samsung’s new double-sided LCD can show two entirely different
pictures or sets of visual data simultaneously on the front and back of
the same screen. Other conventional double-sided LCDs can only show a reverse
