LG Electronics strengthens their customer service training initiatives LG Electronics, the leading consumer durable player in the country, has undertaken unique training programmes to enhance their customer service network and re-iterate the company's commitment towards it's valued customers. Through these initiatives LG aims to set new benchmarks in customer service, enhance brand credibility and eventually increase customer base. The highlight of LG's training
module is its focus on the technical and behavioral aspects, over and above
the field training itself. LG has set up 4 training centers across India,
namely, Greater Noida, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata to train engineers and
plans to spend a considerable sum of Rs. 12.4 million annually on training.

Reliance's Flag Telecom ties up with Omantel An Oman-based telecommunication major has signed up with a Reliance Communications subsidiary to make the Gulf country a telecommunication link between the Middle East and Africa. Idea launches "shared access" initiative IDEA Cellular Ltd, India's leading cellular operator, headquartered in Pune today launched the Shared Access (Voice & Data) program for Rural India. Over 3 million GSM Subscribers added last month According to recent COAI press release, the All India GSM subscriber base grew to 75.3 million, recording an addition of 3.2 million last month. There was an overall growth of 4.23% over the previous month. Among all circles, Category C circles continued to witness the highest rate of growth at 7.0%, followed by Category A circles at 4.7% and Category B circles at 4.4%. Within the Category C circles, the highest growth was recorded by the North East Circle (14.4%) and Assam (10.7%). In A category circles, Karnataka lead the growth at 5.5% followed by Tamil Nadu at 4.9%. Amongst the Category B circles, West Bengal & A&N recorded highest growth at 6.5%, followed by U.P. (E) at 5.9%. In the metros, Chennai lead the growth at 3.1% followed by Kolkata, which witnessed a rise of 2.7% |

Aditya Birla group to acquire Tata's stake in IDEA Cellular The Aditya Birla group announced its intention to acquire Tata group's stake in IDEA Cellular giving Birlas complete ownership of the company. IDEA Cellular is India's fifth largest cellular company. The Aditya Birla group further intends to sell the acquired equity to financial investors. It is believed that IDEA Cellular will now make its much delayed entry into the Mumbai market. The company will also make fresh investments in capital expenditure to expand and improve the quality of its networks. It may tap the capital markets with an IPO. The deal allows Tata group to exit the company and focus on its CDMA business through Tata Teleservices. Tatas have earned a rich return on their investments following this deal. |

Over 4 million GSM subscribers added in March'06 According to latest COAI release, over 4 million GSM subscribers were added last month taking the cumulative all India GSM subscriber base to 69.19 million. Among the GSM service providers, MTNL showed the highest growth over previous month at 12.8% followed by BSNL, Spice and Bharti at 6.84%, 6.22% and 6.12% respectively. |
